Army of the Tennessee.

At this place the 14th Iowa, while marching by rear rank, was intercepted by a Confederate force at 5 p.m. April 6, 1862. After an engagement of 15 minutes the enemy was dispersed and this regiment continued its retreat to the camp of 32d Illinois.

Marker is on Hornet's Nest Loop 0.2 miles north of Sunken Road, on the right when traveling north.
