1902 Constitutional Convention Pin Oak Tree
In 1902 delegates from all 168 towns in Connecticut met in Hartford for a state Constitutional Convention. Torrington's delegate to the Convention was Orasmus R. Fyler. Each delegate received a Pin Oak tree seedling from the USDA bureau of Plant Industry courtesy of US Senator Hawley. These were brought home and planted in many different private and public locations, including town greens, school grounds, town hall grounds, churchyards and delegate's own yards. This tree was planted by Orasmus R. Fyler, who owned this house and the Hotchkiss-Fyler house across the street.
Marker is at the intersection of Main Street and Church Street, on the left when traveling north on Main Street.
