70 Bedford Street

Landmark New York

About 1807 this house was built by John P. Broome, sailmaker and “crier of the courts of Oyer and Terminer and Gaol delivery and of the general session of the peace.” Although altered over the years, the original brickwork and wood beams have been retained. The third story replaced the attic and dormers sometime before 1860. The second story windows with their keystone lintels and the two and one-half story design are typical of the federal period.

Marker is on Bedford Street.
