Golden High School

City of Golden

Downtown Landmark

The Golden High School was dedicated in March 1924. Built on the site of the Eagle Corral and Stables, the school was hailed as the ultimate in high school construction. Designed by renowned Denver architect Eugene C. Groves, and built in the Beaux Arts style, it was the first Colorado high school to be accredited. Later it was converted to a junior high school and saw the last pupil attend class during 1988. The building remains home to a magnificent mural by Gerald O. Cassidy entitled, “The Dawn of the West,” completed in 1928 and recently restored.

Marker can be reached from Tenth Street east of Washington Avenue, on the right when traveling west.
