New Operation Cooper Street

This is the original site of Baker's Academy, Charlotte County's first African American school. Located in the East Punta Gorda Historical District, in the 1960s, this site was a gathering place and recreation center for the black community.

Masonic Lodge

Since 1907 this building has been the Masonic Lodge Meeting Hall for black Masons. The two-story, frame vernacular building has an open hall on the first floor. It was moved from its original site in 1976 and remodeled.

Masonic Cemetery

In 1948 a white landowner provided 5 acres of land for an African American cemetery outside of the town of Bunnell. Local groups are working to refurbish this long-abandoned African American cemetery.
