From 1849 until his death, Wheatland, a 17-room brick house, was the residence of James Buchanan (1791-1868), 15th President of the United States (1857-1861).

James Augustus Buchanan commissioned the

building of this home, completed in 1875. The

bricks used in its construction were fired in

kilns on the property. The exterior walls are

three bricks deep, and the interior staircase

and banister are solid walnut.
