Pea Island Lifesavers

Only U.S. Lifesaving Station manned by black crew. Led by Richard Etheridge, 1880-1900. Operated near here.

Marker is on North Carolina Route 12 14.2 miles south of South Virginia Dare Trail (U.S. 64), on the right when traveling south.
