A.S. Magee

Dr. A. S. Magee served the Pensacola community as a local physician and pharmacy owner. Dr. Magee lived on the southwest corner of Blount Street and 8th Avenue.

In November 1914, a patient required a procedure that would remove a fibroid tumor and appendix. However, the Jim Crow laws prevented Dr. Magee, an African American, from performing the surgery in a hospital. As a result, Dr. Magge elected to perform the operation in a residential dwelling.

Following the successful surgery, the patient wrote a letter to the editor of the Colored Citizen newspaper in which he praised Dr. Magee and his staff.
