Barnwell County Confederate Monument

1900

Our Confederate Dead

(West Face)

Who throughout a long

and bloody struggle dis-

played a heroism and de-

votion to duty unsurpass-

ed. If ever equaled in the

annuals of war.

(South face)

Who wrung from the great

commander of the opposing

armies the humiliating

confession that they could

be overcome only by attri-

tion. And in the deadly con-

teat in which they engaged

their spirits were never

broken. Their courage never

quailed. Their convictions

never deserted. And their

manhood was never surrendered

(North Face)

Erected by the woman

of Barnwell to the mem

ory of their countrymen

who fell in the war for

the rights of the states.

And who died to maintain

the principal that govern-

ments derive their just

powers from the consent

of the governed.

Marker is at the intersection of Dunbarton Boulevard (South Carolina Route 64) and Main Street (South Carolina Route 70), in the median on Dunbarton Boulevard.
