Battle of Bennington

San Coick Bridge Skirmish

Colonel Baum, commanding a force of 700 men sent by General Burgoyne to seize military stores at Bennington, here met American militia under Colonel Gregg who destroyed the bridge and fired upon the enemy.

Colonel Baum here drew up his famous call for reinforcements ending with: “Pardon the hurry of this letter. It is wrote on the head of as barrel.”
