Here Early's Adjutant-General, A.S. Pendleton, while attempting to check Sheridan's advance, was mortally wounded, September 22, 1864.
Marker is at the intersection of Old Valley Pike (U.S. 11) and Millner Road (County Route 644), on the right when traveling north on Old Valley Pike.
