Battle of Milton

On March 20, 1863, a brigade of Union infantry took a position on this ridge and held off repeated attacks by General John H. Morgan's Confederate cavalry. The 1500 Federals, under the command of Colonel Hall, inflicted heavy casualties on the 2000 attacking Confederates. Morgan withdrew late in the afternoon as Federal reinforcements arrived from Murfreesboro. Local citizens buried the Confederate dead in a small grove near the community. Federal losses were light.
