Bauer Brothers-St. Michael's Cemetery

Kaspar and Dora Bauer immigrated to the United States in 1853 from Bavaria. They settled in Pensacola a few years later and established a retail grocery enterprise on Baylen Street where the Escambia County Courthouse currently stands.

The Bauer's had three notable children:

Johnnie, Charlie, and Louis.

Born in Pensacola, Johnnie Bauer (1865-1883) worked in the family grocery store. He later found work with a telephone service. Johnnie died of Typhoid fever on October 12, 1883.

Charlie Bauer (1865-1886) also worked in the family's grocery store. Pensacola Academy listed him as an outstanding student of penmanship on its 1878 class roster. Charlie died of Bright's Disease, an acute kidney infection, on August 22, 1886.

In 1910,Louis Bauer (1872-1910)worked as an inspector for the Wittich Stevedore firm, where he was responsible for loading local lumber products for marine transport. Louis died on July 20, 1910 after receiving a mortal wound while aboard a cargo barge in Pensacola Bay.
