Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel
The Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel has served the city of Pensacola for one hundred and forty-two years and continues to serve the members of the community in their hour of need.
In 1868, Felix Bonifay established the first undertaking business in the state of Florida, located in downtown Pensacola.
Upon Bonifay's death, Frank R. Pou purchased the funeral home in 1897. He owned and operated the funeral home until 1923.
In that year, following the death of Pou, Luther C. Fisher, Sr. obtained ownership of the funeral home and undertaking business. The chapel and funeral home retain the names of these prominent individuals and civic leaders to the present.
It remained under the ownership and management of the Pou and Fisher families until 1985, when John Broxson and his family purchased the facilities. The Broxson family built a satellite chapel and funeral facility on Scenic Highway adjoining the Bayview Memorial Park, established in the 1930's to accommodate the growing need for cemeteries located outside of downtown Pensacola.
In 1997, the funeral home and chapel closed its doors in downtown Pensacola and moved to the chapel on Scenic Highway. Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel is a prominent fixture of the Scenic Highway Corridor and continues to play a significant role in the community.
