On this stream, Bennett's Creek, stood the home of Richard Bennett. He was one of the Commissioners to "Reduce" Virginia after the victory of Parliament in the Civil War in England, 1651, and the first Governor under the Cromwellian domination 1652-55.

Marker is on Nansemond Parkway (Virginia Route 337), on the right when traveling east.
