Bldg. 51 UWF Writing Lab, class rooms
Occupied in 1969, and designed by John E. Jarvis, Jr., Building 50 belonged to a group of buildings (50, 51, 52, and 53) that were the first to be designed for a particular discipline and faculty--those making up the initial Alpha and Gamma Colleges (see University of West Florida).
The group of buildings recalls the shallow-arch of Fort Pickens on Pensacola Beach: first in the base-foundation of the classroom/lecture Building 51 and then in the roof line of the faculty office Building 50, which allows a vaulted ceiling on the second floor.
Today the Bldg. 51 houses the UWF Writing Lab, along with lecture halls and classrooms.
