Bldg. 73, UWF Aquatic Center
Occupied in 1976, the swimming pool was a major addition to the physical education, health, and recreation facilities. The architectural and engineering firm of Henningson, Durham, and Richardson were chosen for the project. The outdoor pool boasted state of the art construction.
A tie to the larger community , high school swim teams were welcome and when not in use by UWF students, the pool was opened to the public. 1984 saw an expansion of the Field house and the transformation of an outdoor pool to a Natatorium.
The south end roof contained the machinery for the water purification and was covered with a metal roof that slanted, tying visually to the ground-- a piece of art-sculpture. On the outside of the east wall was an embankment of earth planted with greenery which connected the west wall of the Field house. Again, tying the whole together -- design with the next larger picture.
