Bldg. 81, UWF Campus Information Center
Campus Information Center, occupied in 1982, was a small but significant building. The site chosen was just west of the juncture of University Parkway and Campus Drive. The building program called for a covered drive-up window, two entrances convenient to visitor parking on either side of the building, a counter with work space behind, display racks for brochures, two restrooms and an "open" look so that visitors could see inside.
The architects chosen for this high-visibility building were Amspacher and Amspacher, a father and son firm. The architects called for a strong visual tie to the Field House, its most immediate neighbor. The brick picked up the same dark-earth tones of those used at the Field House, but the dark brown anodized aluminum roof has since been replaced with a light-cream colored fascia.
Renamed the Welcome Center, Bldg. 81 remains the "go to" place for campus information, visitor parking permits, maps and directories.
