Bldg. 85, 86 UWF COP
The College of Education, offices and classrooms, marked the first complex of buildings to recognize the reorganization of the academic structuring of the university from Alpha, Gamma, and Omega, to the more traditional College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, The College of Education, and the College of Science and Technology. The buildings were first occupied in 1991.
The architect chosen for the projects was Sam Marshall Architects. The site wrapped around the highest hill on campus and the site layout by the architect proposed a vehicular entrance from the University Drive. Thus, these became the first buildings seen upon driving in from the east entrance. Covered walks connected the buildings. Designed by naturalist/artist Bruce Morgan, the architects included a natural creation of falling water, cascading down a series of small pools, overhung with dark sandstones with concrete steps crossing back and forth across the stream.
The Offices of Professional Studies continues to operate from Bldg. 86, while Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, and Social Work occupy Bldg. 85.
