Bldg. 88, UWF WUWF Radio

This small building was sited near the UWF water tower, thus obtaining needed height for its broadcasting aerial. The architects, Caldwell Associates, with much input by those managing and operating the station, worked together to prepare the building program. Caldwell Associates was a small upcoming firm and this was their first major project for UWF. Later, they were appointed for one of the most prestigious assignments on the campus, the John C. Pace Library addition.

More than a broadcast facility, the station needed to accommodate the visiting public, an important factor in public radio. The design included a small gallery-corridor for art that displayed one of the most prestigious and most interesting works of art created by UWF alumnus Peter King. A massive ceramic "portal" stands just inside the main entry, one of King's first large pieces.

Since 1982 WUWF 88.1 FM has served the Gulf Coast community with a wide variety of local, national and international programming in a commercial free environment. The station moved to Bldg. 88 in 1992.
