Blue Angels Hangar

The Blue Angels hangar located on Naval Air Station Pensacola.

Butch Voris founded the Blue Angels in 1946 and built the team into a nationally-recognized flight exhibition team for the Navy. Voris decided everything from the team members, to the flight crew, to the aircraft used. Within five years of the Blue Angels' founding, the team disbanded as the Navy prepared for the Korean War. The Navy reorganized the team in 1951 and it has been performing ever since.

The Blue Angels are known for their flight demonstrations and for performing aerial maneuvers. Contrary to what most people think, the Blue Angels primary task is Navy recruitment and not entertainment.

The Blue Angels Hangar is typically not open to the public, but close by is the Naval Museum of Naval Aviation. On certain Wednesdays when the team practices, fans can meet the team at the Museum and get autographs. The museum offers free admission seven days a week and displays many aircraft used by naval aviators, including all the aircraft used by the Blue Angels. Also, there are free guided tours given by retired military volunteers.

Naval Air Station Pensacola is open to the public but requires identification to enter.
