Bosque Bello Cemetery
This cemetery contains the remains of both Confederate and Union Civil War veterans, including Confederate navy Lieutenant Edward J.K. Johnston, who died of illness while in a Union prisoner of war (POW) camp at Fort Warren, Massachusetts in 1863.
Due to post closings, the Federal government moved his grave three times in New England with his last resting place at Fort Devens, Massachusetts.
In 2002, he was reinterred in the Bosque Bello Cemetery in his hometown.
It is believed that Lieutenant Johnston was the Last Confederate POW buried in New England to be returned to the South.
