Charge d'Affaires to Belgium, 1844-1851,
and founder of Clemson University, lived
at Cane Break from January to July 1844.
In his absence Col. Francis Pickens and
Sen. John C. Calhoun often visited Cane
Break and attended to its business.
Marker is on Denny Highway (State Highway 194) near Barr Woods Road (State Road 33), on the right when traveling north.
