Captain Edmond Edgecumbe-St. Michael's Cemetery

Capt. Edmond Edgecumbe was born in the West Indies on September 13, 1855, and he immigrated to Florida via Key West. In Florida, he became a captain of a snapper boat. The late 1800s and early 1900s the fishing industry in Pensacola and along the Gulf Coast boomed with reports of an average catch ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 pounds of fish.

Edgecumbe was married to Annie M. Edgecumbe, and they had two children; Minnie, born in 1897 and Robert Edmond, born in 1899. Robert's son would later serve in World War II. Capt. Edgecumbe died on October 29, 1911 from pneumonia and is buried in St. Michael's cemetery. His wife, daughter, son, and daughter-in-law are also buried near his grave. His descendants still live in Pensacola.
