CB Fox Department Store

Established in 1979, the CB Fox Department Store in Los Alamos, New Mexico, experienced many evolutions since the 1950s. Originally a theater from 1951, the structure provided entertainment for the scientists working on atomic bombs in Los Alamos.

From 1960-1963, the theater transformed into the Spheres Department Store. During this time, the architecture inside remained intact. Merchandise occupied the balconies that overlooked the stage. In 1963,Clement purchased Spheres. He hired Benner to be the face of the store to create a certain type of brand for the business. Later on, Benner became a business partner, thus creating the Clement and Benner Department Store. The building experienced major renovation during this time. They connected the balconies, creating the second floor that is still present to this day. Clement and Benner owned the building until David and Anne Fox bought it in 1979. David Fox remains the CEO of the department store.

Under their ownership, the store changed its name to the CB Fox Department Store. Their son, Andy Fox is now the president and has been working there since he was fourteen years old. The goal of the store is to be all things to all people. There are no major chain stores in Los Alamos and the CB Fox Department Store is the general store for the town. Continuing to expand over the decades, the store opened a CB Fox Kids next door.

Since 1992, the store increased its furniture selection and this department now makes up a third of their annual profits.
