CCC Headquarters

One of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal programs, the Civilian Conservation Corps hired unemployed young men during the Great Depression. The CCC provided training to men between the ages of 18 and 25 for work on conservation projects including tree planting, fighting forest fires, and construction. Fort Williams was the state headquarters and induction center for all new enrollees before their assignment to one of Maine's 28 camps. Throughout the nation, more than 2,000,000 men served in the CCC.
