Center of Washington’s Army

 

The center of Washington’s Army was located here from Oct. 28 to Oct 31 1776 during the operations around White Plains.Erected by Act of Congress   May 18, 1926

[ Upper Marker : ]This mortar and this remnant of the revolutionary entrenchments of October 1776 mark the final stand by General Washington at the end of his long retreat, the abandonment by Gen. Howe of his purpose to capture the American Army and the revival of the hopes for national Independence.

Marker is on N Broadway (New York Route 22), on the right when traveling south.
