Edouard Rene De Laboulaye

(1811 – 1883)

He conceived this monument, showing the love of Liberty shared by France and America. This statue would be a gift from a people to a people. It was intended for the 1876 Centennial, but was delayed until 1876. De Laboulaye never saw his dream realized.
