Formerly an Indian trail to cross South River. In early colonial times it became a principle thoroughfare connecting Annapolis with southern Maryland and Virginia. George Washington remarked on the beautiful roses that still flourish there.

Marker is on Ferry Point Road 0.9 miles west of Spa Road (Maryland Route 387), on the left when traveling west.
