First Ironworks
1/2 mile north, in 1784, Col. James King, Revolutionary veteran who was at Yorktown, built an ironworks at the mouth of Steel's Creek. A later associate was Governor William Blount. With the King Ironworks was also the first nail factory in the State. He is buried in the family cemetery 100 yards to the east.
Marker is on Volunteer Parkway (U.S. 11E), on the right when traveling east.
