First Section of Tennessee Interstate

On November 15, 1958, the first 1.8 mile section of interstate highway in Tennessee was opened to traffic. The section including an interchange is located at Ardmore, Tennessee on the Tennessee side of the state line. It cost $1.3 million to construct. Legislation creating the interstate system was passed on June 29, 1956.

Marker can be reached from Interstate 65 at milepost 3, 1.5 miles north of Old U.S. 31 (U.S. 31) when traveling north.
