Florence Stockade Monument

This boulder was placed here

by the United Daughters of

the Confederacy of

Florence, S.C. January 27, 1947

To record the fact that

directly south of this spot

was situated a stockade where

6,500 Federal prisoners

were confined

1864 ~ 1865

and

To pay tribute to the Confederate

Soldiers and the citizens of the

community who in the line of duty

guarded these prisoners

A history of this stockade,

written by one of the guards,

has been placed in the

Florence public library

Marker is on East National Cemetery Road (South Carolina Route 13), on the right when traveling east.
