Fort Davis

Established Nov. 1861 by Gen. Albert Pike, C.S. Army. Named for Pres. Jefferson Davis, who had been stationed in the area when a Lieut. U.S. Army. Nearly one million dollares spent on this post by Confederates. In Second Federal Invasion Ft. Davis destroyed Dec. 27, 1862, by U.S. troops including the Third Indian Home Guard Regt. under Col. W.A. Phillips.

Marker is on York Street (Oklahoma Route 16), on the left when traveling north.
