Huntington’s First Burial-Place
was opened about 1700.
Within its limits, in 1782,
Fort Golgotha
was built and occupied by British troops.
Here rest the early town’s patriot dead,
soldier and civilian,
among them
Silas Wood
author of the First History of Long Island.
Remove not the old landmark.
