Frederick County / Washington County

[ South Facing Side: ]Frederick CountyNamed for Frederick 5th and last Lord Baltimore. Erected out of Prince George’s County in 1748. It then included Montgomery County and all of Maryland west to the West Virginia boundary.

[ North Facing Side: ]Washington CountyThe first county in the United States named for the Father of his country. Erected out of Frederick County 1776. It then included what is now Allegany and Garrett Counties.

Marker is on U.S. 340, on the right when traveling north.
