General Andrew Jackson

This boulder commemorates the historical fact that General Andrew Jackson, with his command of nine hundred Georgia Militia and friendly Creek Indians, occupied the Indian village of Herodtown, located on this site, March 12, 1818. This event occurred during his march from Fort Early, Georgia, to Saint Marks, Florida, in the war with the hostile Indians of Georgia.

Marker is at the intersection of Herod Highway (Georgia Route 55) and County Route 164, on the right when traveling north on Herod Highway.
