To the pioneer craftsman whose skills, ingenuity and determination established permanent communities in the wake of the gold rush, and whose progeny have continued to contribute to the region’s character and spirit, recognition is today given the gates created on the forge of Giovanni Lavagnino. A native of Italy, who arrived here in 1877 at the age of 18 and died here, victim of a mining accident, in 1909 at the age of 49.

Marker is on Monte Verda Street.
