Grand Haven Musical Fountain

Before May 30, 1963 the boardwalk of Grand Haven was rather lifeless and boring. In fact the boardwalk itself did not exist. Then, the city had an idea. They would build an attraction that would bring tourists from around the world. That attraction became the Musical Fountain, which now fills the air of Grand Haven with its symphonic sound every summer. It would go on to fuel the building of the boardwalk of Grand Haven, as well as Bicentennial Park and the Waterfront Stadium from which you can most advantageously view the fountain.

Designed by William Booth II, the fountain plays twenty-minute shows of music and dancing water of all colors. Each show has a different theme, which varies throughout the year. The timing of the shows is set to the most advantageous moment of darkness behind the hill which forms the backdrop for the fountain. The fountain is the largest of its kind in the world, challenged only by those at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. (Cody Kirschner, Flagler College)
