Hillsboro Toll Gate

Ten yds. north stood toll gate and toll gate house erected by Nashville and Hillsboro Turnpike Co., Incorporated in 1848. Charges to travel macadamized road could not exceed: horse of mule, 3 cents; 10 sheep, 20 cents; 20 meat cattle, 25 cents; carriage drawn by pair of horses or mules, 25 cents. Toll removed in 1903. Toll gate house, enlarged, stands 20 yds. northwest.

Marker is on 21st Ave, on the right when traveling south.
