Hurricane Isabel
Hurricane Isabel caused a storm surge at City Point on September 18, 2003. Due to a combination of tropical storm winds and reversing high tides, river levels at City Point rose to 13 feet 10 inches above flood stage resulting in the total destruction of the boardwalk. For those standing on the boardwalk at 5 feet 10 inches or less, the water level would have been over your head.
