James Lane Allen
(1849-1925)
This Transylvania honor graduate, who later taught there, won an international audience with his nostalgic stories and novels of Bluegrass region. Allen was born near Lexington. By 1893, after his work became popular, he moved to New York City. He died there, and was buried in Lexington Cem. His will provided funds for fountain nearby, for children of the city.
Marker is on Market Street 0.1 miles west of West 3rd. Street, on the left when traveling east.
