Kansas Korean War Memorial
1950 - 1953
This memorial is dedicated as a lasting tribute to all the service men and women of the United States Armed Forces from the State of Kansas and in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice with their lives on the battlefields of North and South Korea, so that the Republic of South Korea shall remain free.

The American Creed
I believe in the United States of America as a Government of the People, by the People, for the People, whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign nation of many sovereign states, a perfect union, one and inseparable, established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support it's Constitution, to obey it's laws, to respect it's flag and defend it against all enemies.

Republic of Korea
To imprint deeply in history, we the Kansas Korean-Americans, dedicate this bronze panel honoring the sacrificial spirit of the American Heroes who fought the Korean War to preserve freedom and world peace.
On June 25, 1950, troops of the communist North Korea, with Soviet and Chinese backing, stormed across the 38th Parallel and invaded the Republic of South Korea in an effort to spread the seeds of totalitarian communism. This invasion was successfully repelled by the Armed Forces of South Korea, the United States of America and fifteen other nations under the United Nations Command.
The Korean War was one of the most bitter conflicts in history. For three years the fighting continued - spreading from the Pusan Perimeter in southern Korea to the Yalu River in northern Korea. After casualties of four million civilian and military lives, the United Nations and North Korea signed a truce on July 27, 1953 allowing South Korea to retain it's freedom and independence.
This memorial was constructed from donations by State of Kansas Citizens to honor all men and women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States and in memory of those who gave their lives for their country.
