Lincoln and the Black Hawk War

On May 8, 1832, while encamped approximately one mile west of this point, Abraham Lincoln was mustered into the military service of the United States. Captain Lincoln's company was mustered into state service at Beardstown April 28, the day before beginning the march to this place by way of Yellow Banks or Oquawka.

Marker is at the intersection of 10th Avenue West and 1st Street (U.S. 67), on the right when traveling west on 10th Avenue West.
