Lincoln Marker

In February, 1861, Abraham Lincoln took a ‘Whistle-Stop Tour’ from Springfield, Illinois  to Washington, D.C.  on his way to his inauguration.  Hudson, where he was greeted by more than 6,000 admirers,  was one of 29 stops he made in Ohio.  This plaque , situated near the site of the old Hudson depot, commemorates his visit.

James Ellsworth, a great benefactor of Hudson,so admired Lincoln that he named his son after him.  Lincoln Ellsworth became reknowned as an explorer and received many national and international awards.  He is the only Hudson resident to have his own U.S. postal stamp.
