Matias Soto

Matias Soto 1796-1834

Very little is known about Don Matias Soto. His weathered tombstone is the only record of his life. He was born in 1796 in Villaslada de Cameros, Spain. He immigrated to Pensaocla in the early 19th century, where he died at age 38 in 1834. He is buried with his brother, Don Antonio Hernandez Soto, who died at age 40. The inscription on their marble grave marker, although in Spanish and illegible in places, indicates that two children are interred alongside the brothers. It also states that they left behind two inconsolable wives, Donas Manuela and Mariana Soveron.
