Mississippi River Levee

Floods of 1927 and 1937 overwhelmed eastern Arkansas, destroying cotton crops and countless homes. To prevent future loss of life and economic devastation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the St. Francis Levee District built an extensive levee system that has worked effectively since its construction.

Marker is on State Highway 198 when traveling east.
