The Moore Home- 503 East Jackson (tour stop 1)

1. So the Turner-Moore home located at 503 East Jackson Street in Pensacola, Florida is where the whole sordid night began. That night—the night of Friday, January 30, 1931—ended the life of a 23-year-old scion of a prominent Jackson, Mississippi family. His name was Henry Moore. In the early evening hours, Henry arrived home from his job at the Frisco Railroad where he worked as a clerk. He played with his 2-year old son, Henry Jr., then announced to his wife, the former Miss Eulalie Turner, “I think I’ll go see a movie.”

This was an era when a husband could say, “I think I’ll go see a movie” and go, alone, without so much as a question raised! What Eulalie probably didn’t know (emphasis on probably) is that Henry already had a date this evening. The other woman was Gretchen Gregory, the pretty, vivacious 19-year-old daughter of the prominent Pensacola businessman George Gregory, for whom Gregory Street is named.  When Henry left the East Jacskson home he and Eulalie shared with her family, he headed over to 720 North Davis, where Gretchen lived with her family. We’ll pick up the tour there.
