Moses Shane Memorial Park

Moses Shane was a pioneer who had the courage to explore and settle in this vast and open country. He was of Irish descent. He located where Florence stands, built a log cabin and broke several acres of ground in the spring of 1858

First white man, Moses Shane, an irishman came to the area in 1858. Patrick Doyle was the second whiteman to settle in Marion County, he built a beautiful store home on the banks of Doyle Creek in 1859.

Marker is on U.S. 77 near 5th Street, on the right when traveling south.
