National Historic Landmark - COD, USS (Submarine)

A GATO class submarine that is the lowest numbered World War II submarine preserved today, and only one of that era that has not been altered to accommodate civilian visitor access.

Launched in March 1943, COD was dispatched to the western Pacific, where she operated out of Australia and the Philippines.

She made seven war patrols, sinking ten warships, 30 merchant ships, and damaging seven vessels.

She was awarded seven battle stars for her service in World War II.
