National Historic Landmark-College of Charleston

Three structures on this small campus are of architectural significance: the Main Building (1829; 1852), a large Roman Revival edifice, was designed by William Strickland and and later enlarged by Edward B. White; the Gate Lodge (1852), also in the Roman Revival style, was designed by White; the Library (1856), a mid-19th century Classical Revival structure with Italianate details, is the work of George Walker.

The three buildings achieve architectural unity through their Pompeian-red stuccoed walls.
